Possible 1916/1917. Found in bag of wheat pennies. Can anyone help?

Yes, I can.... and no, it's most certainly not a 1916. Just flip it over and have a look-see.

Are there three stars under the eagle?

The obverse is more than sufficient to conclude the OP's coin is a TyII. In particular, do note the hair and shield rivets.

It’s not a 1916 and is likely not a 1917. The 3 stars under the eagle indicate a type two coin which were made from 1917 until the end of the series in 1930.

The kind words are certainly appreciated, but I simply thought it a fine opportunity to point out a couple of the less-commonly used identifiers. Had the OP coin been in better shape, the escutcheon would have been another.

Still not a bad find in a wheat penny bag.

I don't see any "shield rivets" at all: Just Alice the Goon with a big left-arm bicep.

In any case, it's better than anything I've ever found in a pile of wheaties.
