A teller at the Credit Union that I bank, told me that a lady brought in a "gold" state quarter. She asked the teller if she knew how much it is worth. The teller is a former student of my wife's many years ago and she knew that I collected coins. She told the lady that she would have to check on it with a friend. About a day later, I was at the Credit Union with a deposit, so she showed me the gold coin and asked me if it was real. I told her it was real, but it has a thin layer of gold paint. She asked if I wanted it, so I told her I would like to have it, and I gave her a shiny new quarter that I had with me. I feel sorry for the lady the next time she comes to the Credit Union and asks about her gold quarter.
That is a great find! I wonder what the back story was with the person that turned them in. They obviously didn't know what was going on.
