Found silver? 2000 p south carolina quarter

    Anyone know if this is silver did phili make silver proof coins i thought only san francisco did 20170922_201430.jpg 20170922_201321.jpg 20170922_200749.jpg

    Weigh it. It's probably plated.

    Edit: make that "almost certainly plated".

    Yes I've encountered this before.

    Not sure if it's plated could be an error. But definitely not silver. :(

    Not an error. PMD. Not silver.
    I got a nice one that was gold plated. (Looks better in hand.)

    Cant find my scale at moment but after researching a little more you guys are most definately probably right its more likely plated. as always thank you all for your knowledge and help

    most definitely probably right...my second favorite oxymoron after "Jumbo Shrimp"
    and yes in the words of Triumph the insult dog..."I kid, I kid" :)

    I believe that sites like Coin Vault, QVC and even the Franklin Mint jumped on the bandwagon to sell sets of SQ's plated in gold, platinum and silver. They used uncirculated coins that wouldn't grade high enough, but they charged ridiculous prices for them.

    The only silver SC quarters struck were proofs, which would bear the San Francisco "S" mintmark.

    There were, of course, all those novelty plated or painted ones, usually gold-plated or colorized.
