Yes I've encountered this before. Not sure if it's plated could be an error. But definitely not silver.
Cant find my scale at moment but after researching a little more you guys are most definately probably right its more likely plated. as always thank you all for your knowledge and help

I believe that sites like Coin Vault, QVC and even the Franklin Mint jumped on the bandwagon to sell sets of SQ's plated in gold, platinum and silver. They used uncirculated coins that wouldn't grade high enough, but they charged ridiculous prices for them. Chris
The only silver SC quarters struck were proofs, which would bear the San Francisco "S" mintmark. There were, of course, all those novelty plated or painted ones, usually gold-plated or colorized.
