I found this in a dealer's junk box. Is anything wrong with it (It must have been there for a reason)?

Depends on what you paid, but I assume close to melt. In that grade probably worth $12 to $15 in the 'Bay. It's a keeper!

I paid melt value for it (26x face at the time or $6.50).

Yep, the rising tide of silver prices has turned some pretty darn nice pieces into "junk"...

Yeah, that looks as nice as my 1954-S Unc. It may be junk silver, but definately NOT a junk coin!

What about the bumps on the surface? Die deterioration?

Looks to have MS luster and shows early signs of die deterioration. Nice, original coin.

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

I see nothing wrong with it.

I would be wary of the coin having been dipped in the past -- as it's awful white for a silver coin almost 60 years old. Provided the luster is still strong and it was property rinsed, it may not be an issue, but I did want to mention it.

    Nice coin.

I have a 53 S I picked up for around $10(a year and a half ago) that looks identical to yours. Same luster, same sharpness of details. Definite keeper, looks 64 maybe 65.

Could have been polished or otherwise cleaned, which would destroy any collectors value it might have, but it's still worth something in silver, and wouldn't necessarily be bad to keep if you want to.
