The German collectors also differentiate between 6 and 7 digit serial numbers with 6 digit numbers having a premium over 7 digit.

I don't think this is a hyperinflation note since it's dated 1910, meaning that it would have been worth close to 50 US dollars at the time of its issue.

Of course, after WWI its value as currency would have diminished to nothing.

This is correct that this note is not part of the hyperinflation series which would be dated 1923. The 1910 1,000 mark note with the red serial number was originally backed by gold. The green serial number was not backed by gold. The red serials were issued from 1910-1916. The green seals from 1917-22.

connor1, the note you have is from Weimar republic Germany. This government went into effect after the end of WWI and was then replaced by the National Socialists in the early 1930's. It is not from the hyperinflationary period of Weimar Germany in 1923, but before it. The serial numbers don't really affect the grade and value, and in this condition could be valued as high as $3.50.

Errrm ... the note is dated 1910. :) So it was issued during the monarchy years which lasted until 1918. The (Weimar) republic came afterwards.

I have got one of those 1000 mark red seal notes but not in as nice condition.
They also issued a 100 Mark note in 1908 of a similar design, also with red or green seals.

Wow, thanks chrisild, I feel pretty dumb right now. I think I just got to thinking and then forgot about the date. You're right, that was still Monarchy years. Bismarck. Sorry for any confusion in the earlier post guys.

The Rosenberg catalog of German paper money identifies 7 different varieties of this note -- two with 6 digits in the serial number and five with 7 digits. The different types are identified by the series letter in the serial number and the underprint letter in the lower right corner. Th enote with 7 digits, Series A with underprint letter N is valued at 250.00 euros in the catalog in this condition. This note, Series H, underprint O is listed at 3.00 euro.

Since your friend has 50 of them, you may want to check them against the Rosenberg listings.

Not sure about the official catalog value, but I can tell you this: I had a 1000 mark note like that one plus a blue 100 mark note with a red seal, both of them were UNC... and I tried selling each on ebay starting at .99 and $2 shipping - no one took them. My guess is because they are just so common, that no one pays attention. My experience from about a year ago, maybe that's changed now, but just thought I'd share...
