Guys, as you know I am a major barber dime collector. I love them, I have built and sold five or six complete sets with the goal of making my number one set a sight to behold. So last Friday I visited a shop and got a couple of nice ones and thought I would check on ebay and see what kind of wonderful stuff existed out there for me. On Saturday I did some browsing and found a seller who was liquidating a collection from the 40's (yeah right) but they were listing multiple coins per lot. So I watched a few and was browsing through their other lots when I saw something I wasn't sure about. It was a set of 1942 P,D,S Dimes. Mercury is not my first love, but I have a set and last year I did find three 1942/1 mercs. Yeah, the odds were low, but the picture just seemed to say to me this is a 1942/1 D coin in MS. Here they are from the auction

My first thought was someone else would see what I did and there would be a bidding war on, and I wasn't even a hundred percent sure on the coin. I don't normally take chances. But, come auction close I didn't get outbid. They arrived tonight and here are the pics.

It is the real thing. It is already on its way to NGC and then a safety deposit box. I didn't actually believe the seller when they said they were liquidating a collection from the 40's but with a fresh coin like this on the market, suddenly I find it a much more credible tale. I am quite in shock.
