Hi All, My grandpa started me collecting pennies back in 1985 or so, and we did it for a few years in the whitman books until I lost interest and the missing ones got "expensive." I just dug those books out and all the indian heads are very worn - except this one! This one looks amazing and actually has a different patina / color than the later issues - What do you think?
What does that mean? The separation of the ribbon part? I have read they made so many of these the strike can be really weak, too
I like the early ones with the nickel alloy. They are thicker too. I am around VF-35. The obv is nice but the rev takes it down a little. Placement of the dark debris in the numbers and letters on both sides is a concern, and it could be an old cleaning.
I'm not an expert on these, but even looking at the PCGS photograde app it looks like the ribbon being separate from the hair is what separates the 45 to a 50. These are CN, so maybe the grading is different? This is my 64 CN that I had purchased in a lot of coins and have graded it as a AU in my head but didn't list a grade as, well as I said I'm not an expert on indians and don't want to inflate a coin simply because it's mine.
I've never subbed a CN coin, so that I'm not sure of. If this indian doesn't sell by my next sub in 2 weeks I'll submit it and see what they call it.
