Thats the fun of detecting. Wondering who last held the coin and how it was lost. Our Michigan soil is great on coins for some reason. IF they were dropped in good condition the soil usually keeps em pretty nice. The 1867 is actually cleaning up pretty nice.

Great finds , really like that toy pistol . The '79 cent looks like it was MS when lost .

Its all about location with detecting. Old home sites are the best. One room school sites, church sites. Any place where folks went back in the day. You have to know your detector and what its telling you though.

So how do you guys spots where you're allowed to MD and dig up stuff because I bought a metal detector but I have no idea where I can use it?

Yup, if we only knew their story!!! I often say that when I acquire a hundred plus year old gunsmith special... I often daydream about how this old gun I'm rebuilding could of been owned by Billy 'The Kid'??? We'll never know???

Go knock at an old home and ask the homeowner. The worst thing that can happen is that they say no. I get about 50/50 yes no. Old homes are the best places to go. After that old church spots, one room school sites, all with permission of course. Old parks or fairgrounds are great as well.
