1957-D: In spite of the gunk, I think it is a nice sample. I don't have a question about this... just showing a find.
Nice one. BIEs were common in the early 1950s for some reason. Yours is a relatively large one. Keep up the hunt!
These were a HOT item in 1955-56!! Notice how the highlight (on the second enlargement) picks up the "VDB" on Lincoln's shoulder.
The "piece of metal" is, in better terms, a die chip. The piece of the die in between the B and E fell out, leaving a cavity, so when the coin is struck, the area is actually raised.
Another day another BIE... this is a 1957 P, just pulled it from a roll. Not as snazzy as the last one, but BIE nonetheless. At this rate, I'll be raking in ones of dollars in no time!
Nice one! Actually, the BIE error was the very first error I found, and the one that pretty much got me into collecting, so they have a special place in my heart.
Nice finds. I had no idea about "BIE" and I have probably 30 rolls of solid date 50's that I will now re-search in order to see if I have some of these!
Go to settings up in the top right corner of your screen, then "Edit Avatar." It pretty much speaks for itself after that.
