I recently decided to sell this coin, as I could use the money right now. I gave eBay a try, but didn't have much luck. I posted a message asking for offers here in CoinTalk's Open forum, but I haven't gotten any bites yet. I'd try Teletrade, but I'd really like to sell it quicker than it would get sold via that method. Does anyone know of anyone (collectors and/or dealers) who would be interested in something like this?

I've taken some better photos of the coin and slab, attached.

    Thanks,
    Kris

That's a wonderful find. Good luck with your sale effort.

I've seen others with the same grade from NGC or PCGS go for anywhere from $900 to $1600 on eBay, Teletrade, and other places. I put it up for a $999 starting bid and $1199 Buy It Now on eBay, but I didn't get any bids, despite 8 people watching the auction. I'd still prefer to sell it for about $1000, but would consider selling for slightly less if the opportunity presented itself. I just need to find someone to sell it to.

    Thanks,
    Kris

And here in lies the problem,

And here in lies the problem with many coins.
They are rare, they are high grades, they are worth the money but to who?
I've said many times I would rather find a coin worth $300 than a coin worth $3000. A coin worth $300 can fetch many buyers - a coin worth $3000 a very few.
So here is your problem, you have to find someone to sell it to.
Those 8 watchers on ebay would probably bite if you had a by it now price or a start price of $775. If all you have in it is the proof set and grading fees you will make $735 on the coin anyway and that's a bundle.
I only made that kind of money on a coin about 4 times in my life.
Either that or hide it away in a safe place and know you've always got a valuble coin in reserve for hard times.

"This is another fine point of coin dealing" It's not so important what a coin could bring, has brought, may bring - what's important is what it does bring and with that kind of profit there's no downside at all.

Yes, you make some very good points. I know that whatever I make off the coin will be an excellent profit. I'm just trying to maximize it, as I'm trying to garner enough cash to buy some other stuff I'd like to get (not coin-related). But I may have to settle for selling it for less than I'd like. I might give eBay another stab, since it will be free to list it again, if it sells the second time. I'll just have to lower the price a bit, I suppose.

    Thanks,
    Kris

Well, I've relisted the coin with a lower Buy It Now price (see the Auction Listings forum).

On another note, I found this auction for the same coin, except certified by PCGS, and it actually has bids at $1299:

Can someone explain this to me? Does a PCGS coin really command that much more than an NGC coin with the same grade? It almost makes me wonder if my auction with a $999 Buy It Now is a mistake. But I couldn't even $999 as a starting bid before....

    Yes it does.
