Bought this one today at the Tucson show. It's about 5 inches long. Preparation by Horst Burkard.

Whoa, that's even before Bing's time!!

    Very cool

... if I happen to come across something cool while we're mining, maybe I'll give you first dibs, my friend? (we're mining at almost 5,000 feet below surface at the moment!!)

    pretty cool, eh?

Mind if I jump on this thread and ask if anyone can say if this looks authentic or not? If it does or doesn't, please let me know why you think that so I can learn. It's about the size of my thumb (I apologize for not putting something in for reference). I just picked it up today in a local market in Germany. Thank you!

If it's a cast it looks like you bought the mold too!! I've never seen matrix like that but that doesn't it's not real.

It's just like coins. Look for the bubbles under magnifications. Little indents. Round.

Also, is there an attribution? Genus and species and location of find?

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find any said bubbles, but I truthfully don't know what they should look like. Close ups below. I didn't ask where it was found. I asked the lady at the stand how I could know the fossil was real. She said she honestly had no idea and that she bought them from a reputable dealer and has worked with him for over 30 years no issues. Could she have lied? Sure. But for 25€ I risked it. I'm afraid I didn't ask where it came from.

    OK....
Here is what most people except Sallent would consider the most beautifull butterfly from Prinz Alexander Mountain Range/Papua New Guinea 4b6f309f24b16b9e.jpg Ornithoptera_paradisea_f.jpg
    1. MALE ornithoptera paradisea paradisea "blue form"
    2. FEMALE same butterfly.....but pretty ulgy compared to male counterpart.

I don't know what to say....thats almost a "Biblical Infestation" I had never heard of these critters. I knew Manitoba had "Mosquito" problems, but fish flies on that of that....I really feel bad for you:(. Well, at least you now have a Conservative Premier:happy:

Our "pickeral" aka walleye love frogs! We use that and small perch as bait to catch them....works way better then lures.
