Yes, but Liberty's breast has luster, it just appears somewhat dark from the toning. High points though are the left hip and right heel; eagle's breast and leg.
Doug , I had a PCGS MS-64 where the left breast had a little darkness but no wear why is this so common . rzage
Probably not gonna be the answer you wanted, but PCGS will grade coins as high as MS67 that have light wear on them. Are you sure it isn't wear ?
I don't have it anymore I guess it could be very minimal wear , hence the darkness , Does NGC do the same ? Rusty
I've seen better AU-58's than a lot of MS-63's. As stated above grading coins is something that must be done in person. Viewing a image through a monitor simply won't work. What’s important here is that you’re happy with the purchase you made. If you're going to buy a coin, buy it because you like it. It's been a while since I've been in the area but you might want to check out the Danbury and New Haven shows as well if you don't already.
My opinion, AU-58. The best that I can tell from looking at the pics is that there appears to be some slight traces of wear on leg area. No matter what, that's a BEAUTY!!!!
I have taken many scans of coins and this half looks like it has a real nice luster. Yes the high spots on a coin usually don't have the same luster because the metal isn't pressed against the mold with the same pressure. The problem I have is to say to someone that it looks like a 3 or it looks like a 4 to me and them have them say, well on CT they told me it was a XXX and I used CT as an example; I very easily could have used my name in its place. But I will stick with my original comment which is it can be anything between a 58 to a 63. Depending on the day or how many times you submit the coin and which company grades it.
