I have a few foreign bank notes that I inherited, and they look old! I know what countries they're from, but I don't know the date or value. Could you help? I'll post pictures below.
When it comes to banknotes, the date on the note doesn't always correspond with when it was actually printed. Take American Currency, for example; the date on the note often corresponds from when the U.S. Senate confirmed the Secretary of the Treasury. The BEP is still printing Series of 2017 notes despite it being 2020. If the Secretary of Treasury resigned as in the case of Lloyd Bentsen in 1994, the next series of notes would change the series year to correspond with his successor, who was confirmed in January 1995. However, in the case of your note, I'd say that the date on your note probably corresponds roughly with when it was probably printed.
What you have @Devyn N. is a Japanese One-Yen note from 1916. However, in that sort of condition, your note is the sort of thing you'd find in a bulk foreign paper money box for 50 cents. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note208109.html
hmmm, where did a Japanese not come from? I must have been typing my reply and didn't see it. My bad.
This particular note was printed from 1924 to 1942. However, the overprint was added in 1942. Brazil, 1942 5 Cruzeiros overprint on 5 Mil Réis i.e. P# 29 https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note218204.html
