There is a Clayton (nmi) Cox born in 1922 who served in the USMC in WWII. There is no record of a Clayton Cox serving in the USMC in Korea.

His overseas service began in July 1944 with the 1st Bn, 11th MR, 1st Mar. Division. He remained with them until mid 1946. This meant he was with the 1st Division for Pelilieu and Okinawa. He was still with them when the 1st Division went to China after the war.

The WWII Japanese and Chinese notes all make sense for someone who served with the 1st Marine Division.
