I have opened quite a few slabs for my coins. Probably half or more... To open a slab, just wrap the coin in an old towel and tap the edges of the slab with a hammer until they crack. The first one is scary, but aftewards it only takes a few seconds once you know how hard to tap. Others use a vice with good success -- this is probably the safer method. I don't have a picture of my current 7070 -- but coins in the first page of the Dansco are posted on the first page of this thread -- and virtually all of the coins are on my website: http://www.pbase.com/miker/coins
THERE ALBUMS ARE AT THE FRONT OF THIS THREAD JUST READ EVERY POST, AND YES I WOULD OPEN A SLABBED COIN TO PUT IN MY 7070 SET THAT WAY I KNOW THE COIN IS NOT COUNTERFEIT. FRANK.
I picked up a very nice 1833 cap busted half dime today for my type set grade was ex-fine very nice looking coin. Now if I could find some of the beautiful examples that BONE has been showing lately I could finish this set. BRUCE.
About those coin rings... ...Someone mentioned something about a ring to put around your coin to take up some extra room?? I have just recieved my Draped Bust Cent, and when I put it into my book, it just kinda fell right in, with a few extra millimeters of slop room, so it's just kinda bouncing around and spinning in place. I sure would like for it to be tight enough not to spin on me. HELP!! Also, someone posted a link to a site that shows negative and neutral feedback given to ebay sellers, does anyone know of that site. Thanks to everybody in advance.
This is a idea that Becky gave me make a shim I made mine out of a 2x2 flip just cut a thin strip and place it around the coin like a shim works great. Bruce.
