I don't usually go for colorized coins but I do own a bunch of Cuban issues.

I believe you are correct in that assumption. I have seen a few of these before.

I really like that one. It's a nice example. I don't know if the gilding was done "as made" or if it was an afterthought, however. None of the others I've seen were gilt, but they were all lower grade and quite worn. Yours is the highest grade example I've seen.

I wonder if they were made to loosely resemble gold sovereigns, like a lot of gaming counters of that era were. How big is it?

Let's wrap up the "gilt, enameled, or colorized" theme with this 1840 Napoleon funeral medal, and switch the theme to "landscapes, pastoral scenes, and city views".

Ah that I can do! (I avoid colourised coins as far as possible!)
This medallion I picked up the other day in a job lot. The other side is identical and there is no writing anywhere. Can anyone tell me anything about it? It looks American in origin, measures about 36mm across and is 1.6mm thick (quite thin):

    The Victoria Temperance one is 4.03 grams and 22mm D. I have 2 of the imitation spade guineas posted here, and they are both 24mm D and appear to have well worn gilding. 1790 GB-SG obv token.JPG 1790 GB-SG rev token.JPG 1790 Token 1-2 p obv.JPG 1790 Token 1-2 p rev.JPG

    Oops! Off sides with the spade guineas! Now I must find something to fit the new theme...Here is a sort of landscape/seascape 1988 French Polynesia 50 francs 1988 FR-POLY 50 f obv.JPG 1988 FR-POLY 50 f rev.JPG

I led you astray by discussing the gaming tokens. I think perhaps that sovereign-like temperance piece you posted might have been a later evolution of those Spade guinea-like pieces; just mimicking the sovereign rather than the guinea. Just a guess.

I like some of the seascapes on French Oceania coins.

Continuing the "landscapes, pastoral scenes, and cityscapes" theme, I will post (likely a re-post) one of my more popular pieces.

@PaddyB- I'm afraid I haven't a clue, but it certainly has a late 19th century appearance. Those folks look like they're dealing with hardship, and since there are what appear to be some potatoes in that basket, I wonder if it has something to do with the Irish Potato Famine? Granted, that was 1840s and not 1870s-1890s like this medal looks to me, but I wonder. What made you think it was American? I'm not disagreeing with you there- just wondering. Since so many Irish came to America because of the famine, it doesn't rule out the medal being both American and about the Irish Potato Famine.

All of this is rampant speculation, of course. It could just be a random agricultural medal that has nothing to do with the stuff I just expounded on.

Rather than being melancholy, those folks could just be praying, in hopes of a good harvest. (?)

I think they are potatoes, and the fork has the wide tines of a digging fork, not a hay pitching type fork. I wonder what is the tall object in the background on the right, and what appears to be a lower building to the right of that. The people do appear to be praying, whether in thanks for that meager harvest of potatoes or in expectation of a much larger harvest. I am intrigued by this one.

Yes - an intriguing one. Something to do with Potatoes does seem to fit. I thought American because of the attire of the two people - particularly the gentleman's tunic and hat - but that may be wrong.
I would think the structure in the background is a church steeple.
Their pose suggest mourning to me - either over the poor crop (if potatoes is the theme) or over someone buried. First glance I feared the basket was a crib and they were praying over a dead baby, but potatoes fit better I hope!

I also thought at first they were mourning over a dead baby in the basket, then I saw what appeared to be potatoes and the bags in the wheel barrow also look like sacks of spuds. There were probably more than one of these medals made and someone in the world will possibly come up with more idea about what it is. Meanwhile, here is another 'landscape' from Madagascar, Baobab trees, 2005, 50 ariary. 2005 MG 50 a obv.JPG 2005 MG 50 a rev.JPG

Definitely taters. That pitchfork thingie stuck in the ground is what they used to harvest them, unless I am much mistaken. (Edit- yes- a "digging fork", as @coin_nut said.) So why they're praying remains unknown, but it is a "Tater Token" fer sure! ;)

PS- I think the farmer, and maybe his wife, are wearing wooden clogs, which seems to suggest more of a continental European origin?

I love baobab trees. They made quite an impression on me when I lived in East Africa as a child.
