I would expect this to be a 12th or 13th century fals (Ayyubid? - I know Lanz are advertising these as earlier types, don't know if you have it from this German firm). Umayyads are simpler, like this.

    6029 wo.jpg

AE Fals, Umayyads. Mint Dimashq. Obv. Palm branch above mint name, and under it the word ‘Jaz’ = Good. Rev. 2 lines of text: Kalima. 15 mm, 4.35 gr.

Thanks. I think I actually purchased it from a local seller but I know he makes a lot of purchases from Lanz. Unfortunately when I first started branching out from strictly modern world into "ancients" I didn't keep good notes. I just wanted a few items. :angelic:That changed pretty fast.

Edit; Thanks to your lead, I think It is an Ayyubid Sultanate of Az-Zahir Ghazi circa AH608.

A recent purchase. Just took this image this morning. Nice toning to my eye.

Yes, those Bhutan coins are neat, I have a few. Here is a BI Tanka from Delhi Sultans, Sikander Lodi, ca. 1489-1517. I see I have 5 of these with various small differences. I guess the theme is still interesting patina or however it was stated. I have plenty of old, crusty, discolored coins. 1489-1517 Delhi S 1 t obv (5).JPG 1489-1517 Delhi S 1 t rev (5).JPG

1861 GB half penny. So many of these old AE type coins come out chocolate or almost black, and this one became green. 1861 GB half p obv.JPG 1861 GB half p rev.JPG

If it's green, it's been in the ground. There's still mud in the legends. ;)

Let's move on to coins that show exceptional facial hair. You be the judge of what that is.

No point now, you've nicked the best one. :D

Don't think we'll have any argument over this one though.

Oh I don't know - I think this one might trump Peter the second of Brazil:

This one has less hair overall, but gets full comic value from what he has:
