This one is pretty interesting. It's a 1934 Lincoln cent, but the reverse seems to have been encased in some kind of copper shell which commemorates the fire aboard the SS Morro Castle in 1934, the same year as on the coin.

Why someone would make a souvenir to commemorate a disaster which killed 137 people is anyone's guess. I must admit it's pretty interesting 80+ years after the fact, though.

This piece, which was another cheap bulk bag cherrypick for me, now resides in the Morro Castle exhibit at the New Jersey Maritime Museum.

Deb Whitcraft, the curator of the museum and the coauthor of the definitive book about the disaster, bought it from me.

An oft-posted newp of mine (but can you blame me?) ;)

How about coins with pictures of coins on them next?

(That's a rather subtle detail on this one. They're spilling out of that cornucopia.)

@alurid- I have long loved that New Brunswick type. And I live in Brunswick (Georgia) so I consider it my duty to find a nice AU-UNC example one day.

I had a holed one on my old Holey Coin Vest.

Lions, huh? Good theme, but a tad overdone. I liked the "scales of justice" idea.
    Here's what we'll do.
First, I'll post this Utrecht duit to satisfy the "lions" requirement.

    HCV-Netherlands-Utrecht-1duit-1786.jpg

Then, I'll change the theme to holed coins.

Then I'll post this early Canadian token ("slotted for wampum", I was told). That gives the option to return to the "scales" option if anyone wants to.

So "holey" coins or coins with balance scales on them, then.

I posted this one a few years ago on here, but hopefully no one minds seeing it again - one of my favourite temple tokens of all time!

Here's a "challenge coin" with monkeys on it that I bought recently, to give to a friend who's into monkeys.

"Not my circus, not my monkeys." A phrase that comes to mind often at work.

Ladymarcovan recently used it in regards to some issue with my family, which made me laugh, as she had not seen this challenge coin, and I had no idea she knew the saying.

Continue with monkeys, if you like, or circus-related coins or tokens.
