I realized my mistake and pulled the 1942 Mercuries and replaced them with the nickels above. Yes, I really liked the dimes. Maybe I’ll post them again sometime!
I posted dimes when I should not have, replaced them with nickels, and now we have come around to Mercury dimes again! This is only a NGC MS65. Price guide for an MS66 is only $5 higher at $40, so at either grade I don’t see a lot of motivation for getting it professionally graded. But somebody did.
This got a Details grade because of the mark at the reverse rim at 9:00. Apparently it’s a contact mark from a coin roll wrapping machine. Without the mark, I would never have afforded a coin of this caliber. I could see knocking it down maybe 1 grade to compensate, but this “flaw” just does not bother me. It seems ridiculous to knock the coin all the way to MS60 because of a mark that can only be seen if you hold the coin a specific way.
