A very interesting issue. I would very much like to know if there have been examples of this quadrans found in Europe.

This quadrans can be found in Israel, Palestinian territories, Jordan and South Syria. There are many excavation reports, in these countries, mentioning this coin among those found in the digs. There were even smaller local imitations minted. But I could not find any mention of it in archaeological reports from other countries. In UK, there is the PAS database : all the Trajanic quadrantes found in UK with Hercules' bust are another emission, with a club on reverse.

I am wondering if this quadrans, with the boar on reverse, was a special emission of the Rome mint for circulation in Arabia after 106 AD, because it is the equivalent of the AE coins of the last Nabataean king Rabbel II.

A lot of strikes near the end of the Empire were not the best, and the quality of the flans were also not great. That being said, no ancient coin is truly ugly to me in my opinion.

Not my coin, but I used to study it...
It is a follis, but in Cherson the mark of value is not in nummia, it was in pentanummia (coins of 5 nummia). Thus they write H (8), while other mints may write M (40).

This ancient Cherson is not the city of the same name we know today. Byzantine Cherson is now Sebastopol, in Crimea. The modern Cherson, famous for having been invaded by the Russians and retaken by the Ukrainians, is on the Dniepr river, 234 km North of Sebastopol.
