Since I like showing it off, I'll re-post my most recently acquired Roman Republican denarius, issued by C. Calpurnius L.f. Piso Frugi, minted circa 61 BCE (not in 67 BCE as Crawford states). A very fetching Apollo graces the obverse.

    I hope a parazonium counts.

Of course a parazonium counts. But if that's a parazonium, why isn't it triangular, and why does it have a knob at the end instead of a point? It looks more like a short scepter -- kind of like the denarii of Balbinus and Pupienus with reverses that some erroneously characterize as figures of those emperors, each bearing a parazonium (neither of which is remotely triangular), but are actually figures of the Genius of the Senate, each bearing a short scepter.

Those are good questions. I suppose I shouldn't have accepted RIC V.2 uncritically, because the reverse description there calls it a parazonium. My coin is 124, bust type C.

    How about this one?

    Valerian I, AD 253-260.
    Roman AR antoninianus, 2.75 g, 20 mm, 7 h.
Uncertain Eastern mint, 2nd emission, AD 256-260.
Obv: IMP C P LIC VALERIANVS·P·F·AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front.
Rev: PIETAS AVGG, Valerian, holding eagle-tipped scepter, and Gallienus, holding parazonium, standing facing each other, sacrificing over lighted altar between them.
    Refs: RIC 285; Göbl 1684e; Cohen/RSC 152; RCV 9955; Hunter 73.
Notes: The ANS attributes this issue to Cyzicus, Göbl to Samosata, and RIC to Antioch. According to the introduction of RIC volume V, during Valerian's reign, some coins minted in Asia cannot certainly be attributed to either Antioch or Cyzicus (p.22-26). RIC dates this issue to AD 255-56.

Next: Coin from Saguntum , Sagunto, Arse , Spain . They are all the same local.
    The Siege of
Saguntum was a battle which took
place in 219 BC between the
    Carthaginians and the Saguntines
at the town of Saguntum, near the
modern town of Sagunto in Spain. The
    battle is remembered because it
triggered one of the most important
wars of antiquity, the Second Punic War.
