Eastern Europe, Celtic imitations of Alexander III of Macedon. Circa 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 17.02g, 12h). Uncertain prototype. Obv: Head of Herakles, wearing lion skin. Rev: AΛEΞΔHΛPOY to right; Zeus Äetophoros seated left; no control mark, blundered inscription. Ref: Cf. OTA 566; Michaela Kostial "Kelten Im Osten; Sammlung Lanz" (München 2003), pg. 150, No. 875 (this coin). Very Fine. Old iridescent collection tone, a few die breaks, a little off center. Well executed imitation of good style. Ex Hermann Lanz Collection; Ex Roma XVII; Ex CNG.

@DonnaML, your comparison elicited instant memories of the same impression from some real architecture. The one time I got to Europe, as an 11-year-old with my family, we barely made it to Bayeux in time to see the Tapestry. Something hardly less memorable, though, was seeing the cathedral from the outside. Smallish, but really sweet, for the genre. Inspired a haiku that netted me $20 toward a Michelin road atlas of France from Rick Steeves.

0A9543BE-8E9C-44DD-B5B9-A3131042BEF2.jpeg New theme, a republican coin of Lucius Aemilius Lepidus Paullus/Concordia. Technically this is my first republican coin that I bought back in late July from ma-shops and still waiting, however I bought other republican coins since then and received them! Not only have I overpaid for this coin but also I regret buying this coin given how most of the word Concordia is worn out!
    Post a coin you hate/regret.

NewStyleKing Beware of Greeks bearing wreaths

This issue PROW,has 2 differing versions of its symbol. In the first months the ships prow looks like a large arrow ,so it was changed to this. The arrow type are quite uncommon.
This coin is often found in thracian coin hoards with 3 other issues of NewStyles called the over-representated types of closely dated coins.

Mesembria Thrace Corinthian helmet diobol (450-350 BC)- 1.16g
As I mentioned in my old post, I bought this coin for the Corinthian helmet and also because the strike and wear make the helmet look like a D!
