Three crowned kings, aka the Tamil kings of Chera, Chola, and Pandya. COIN MAP.png
The Southernmost coin is Pandya's minted around the 'Sangam age' of 300 BCE- 300AD. Korkai was their harbour, which traded with the Greeks, Rome and China, the Madurai coin was minted after gaining independence from the Cholas. The Chola gold denotes the subjugation Cheras (bow behind tiger), and twin fishes for Pandyas, minted in the city of Thanjavur (not in this map, coz it's a much older map, but the city is around 60 kms East of Uraiyur). And finally, The Cheras are Kongu Chera clan from Karur, depicting bow and arrow.

Ignoramus Maximus Nomen non est omen.

Coin and map in one: bbbbbbb.jpg
Ionia, Achaemenid period, uncertain Satrap ca. 350-334 BC. 13mm, 2,06 gr.
Obv: Persian king in kneeling/running stance holding spear and bow, c/m sun.
Rev: Irregular incuse in the form of a map of the hinterland of Ephesos. (?)

    From CNG on the type:

'Johnston has interpreted this remarkable reverse design as a relief map of the hinterland of Ephesos, which would make it the earliest Greek map and first physical relief map known. On the right (north) are the mountains Tmolos and Messogis between the river valleys of the Caÿster and Maeander, to the left of which are three mountain ridges (Madranbaba Dagi, Karincali Dagi, and Akaba Tepesi). Johnston follows Six in suggesting that the coins were probably struck under the Persian general Memnon at Ephesos, circa 336-334 BC, in order to pay his army after he had captured the city, but before his defeat by Alexander at the Battle of Granicus in 334. However, Johnston’s theory has been the subject of some doubt, most recently by Leo Mildenberg'.

To 'read' the map the pic of the reverse should be turned 90 degrees counterclockwise. (Oops...my bad:happy:)

Do we need a rule limiting the number of repetitions of the same 'Next:'? I am running out of seashells but:

Honestly, I was hoping someone would post a Slavei or Lippanoff fake but Mesembria certainly is a city in what is now Bulgaria. Nice coin!

I believe this is flan warpage / deformation as it was pounded. Still, I like the curls / rolls.
