    "Sulla's Dream" denarius. - OK, it probably isn't actually Sulla, but that is the traditional interpretation of this coin!

    Obv. L. BVCA - Diademed head of Venus right, wearing earring and necklace
    Rev. Sulla's dream: in the foreground on left, Sulla reclining right against a rock, his left arm supporting his head; on right is seen Luna Lucifera, wearing crescent on head, descending left from a mountain, her veil floating above her head and holding lighted torch in right hand; Victory with spread wings standing facing in background, holding palm frond in raised right hand.

    I bought this with the provenance back to 1996 and was pleased to find the 1913 sale appearance in Banti - the break was quite distinctive in the old photograph.

    Miss Thompson said that the Athena obverse on the Apollo coinage is possibly the worse rendition on the whole of the New Style.
    There are two renditions of Apollo on the reverse of this issue, this is the commoner, the other almost certainly based on a statue somewhere. Must get one sometime!

    An imitation of the ROMA New Style type of Xenocles & Harmoxenos
    with Aetolia replacing ROMA sitting on Celtic/Macedonian circular shields trophies. Aetolia was a home of the Aeolians.

    Unknown (Sarmatian?) mint.
    Obv: ΛNTONINVS PIVS FEL ΛVG; Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right.
    Rev: CONCORDIΛ; Two standards between two aquilae; NILIT in exergue (sic, the N backwards and replacing the correct M, and the L looking like an upside-down T).
    Refs: imitation of: RIC 187; BMC 275; C 15; Thirion-344.
