    The reverse bevel on this Spanish AE28 of Castulo is partially due to a weak strike not completely flattening out the cast blank.

    Obv: Wreathed head of Tanit left
    Rev: Horse standing right; uraeus above.

    Comment: Original green patina.
    Note: The largest Carthaginian coin and likely one of the largest coins struck in antiquity

    Yes - It's an easy call. See the coin photos showing both types on

    Sv 1426 and 1698 look rather different once you get past the obvious similarity of having Zeus on one side and two eagles on the other. The cartoonish eagles, spindly cornucopia, and peculiar 'Cyprus' Zeus are typical of the 1698 and recognizable once you get familiar by seeing a lot of them.

    1426 is from Alexandria mint, and its date isn't as certain but unlikely its as early as posted above. Sv 1698 has been tied to specific historically recorded events so its time period is more confident.

    Both are common coins but you're in luck - the 1426 is *extremely* common while 1698 is only 'fairly' common. Yours is a nice example. They're interesting for other reasons as well and you can study up on them to learn more about their historical connections.
