Good question @Alegandron - good question! I watch college football here and there in the U.S. and the are two players in the pac-12 - one named Hasdrubal and the other Hamilcar, so maybe these names will become more popular with people starting families? I thought it a bit interesting as a phenomenon.

Yes, but Hannibal was a man of great ability, but also a honorable, decent human being. Julius Caesar/ Scipio Africanus/ Sulla/ Crassus where cruel towards their enemies/ and helped enslave the people they conquered. Truly great captains of history are respected by friend and foe alike. Good examples/ Napoleon/ Frederick the Great/ Robert E. Lee/ Erwin Rommel/ Paul Von Hindenberg/ Sulieman the Magnificent....
But on the otherhand, here you have the leader of the "Third Reich" copy most things Roman, forgetting that the Roman colonized Germania/ enslaved her people and if able would have erased it from history.

Agreed. They also performed genocide on the Celts of Gaul. Interesting how today we laude the Roman Empire, when Celts and Germans were obliterated. I enjoy the Roman Republic, for its incredible and amazing growth into an Empire. However, my heritage is German and Celt. I cannot get excited about the atrocities they performed at the expense of my heritage when they moved into the Imperial period.

Postumus coin from Milan struck by Aureolus - VIRTVS EQUIT 2.26g, 19.5mm. Aureolus was proclaimed Emperor by the legions of Illyria in 267, and made himself master of Northern Italy, but he was defeated and slain in battle in 268, by Claudius II.
    Aureolus Milan .jpg
Struck by Aureolus, Romano-Gallic Usurper, AD 267-268, Antoninianus, in the name of Postumus. Mediolanum (Milan) mint, 3rd officina. 3rd emission, mid AD 268.
Obv: Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Postumus right
Rev: Virtus advancing right, holding round shield and transverse spear

"While affairs were thus situated in the east, intelligence was brought to Gallienus, who was then occupied in the Scythian war, that Aurelian or Aureolus, who was commander of the cavalry posted in the neighborhood of Milan to watch the motions of Postumus, had formed some new design, and was ambitious to be emperor. Being alarmed at this he went immediately to Italy, leaving the command against the Scythians with Marcianus, a person of great experience in military affairs."
