The above coin is a cast FAKE!!!- thanks to Martin: https://www.cointalk.com/members/maridvnvm.31620/ for the heads up!! it is being returned asap. Just got it on ebay- that is the second fake I got suckered for and the last- done with ebay.
I could delete this but maybe it should stay up for the info. Did anyone else notice it as a cast?- They are getting pretty good at it. The seller is not on the fake list and he is in Canada(not Bulgaria etc). I did not think this type of ancient was high risk for fakes but that was wrong.

Here is a fake I got suckered into buying a few years back, so don't feel so bad:

    Fake, no; Stannard scoop, yes
    r26110fd0760.jpg

Weight adjusted or modified flans (not limited to Stannards)

  7. Severus Alexander

Severus Alexander find me at NumisForums

Qarakhanid coins like this one often show pretty dramatic "adjustment marks", the scrapes were applied to the flan before striking. (Is this a legal play? not sure medieval are allowed...)

Qarakhanid AE fals, Kharashket mint, 420 AH (i.e. 1029 AD).

If that's a legal play, then I will make the next theme Central Asia, just to mix things up a bit...
