Please don't buy these. Not to be insulting but these sterling silver beauties could be considered trinkets.
I'm not looking to buy anything. I came into a collection of coins a while back and I am having a little fun looking into them all. US and world coins, and old banknotes too. I have no idea what they are but its cool looking them up a little at a time.
Donna, they are very cool coins. Some here are put off by the Franklin Mint marketing. They are still silver, I love the designs and the concept, I would have them in my collection but I wouldn't pay the original market price. I'll give a like. Post more coins you have questions about
I remember back in the '60s being in a coin shop when a lady brought in her deceased husband's Franklin Mint collection of one-ounce medals of Great Left- Handed Baseball Pitchers or some such. He told her they were worth melt (which wasn't much then) even though she said how much he had paid for them. She took the money and he tipped the coins out into his "melt" bucket and handed her back the walnut and felt case...
As a general rule, coins that were originally made for circulation or government issued with a denominated value are collected and will retain value or be sought after in the future. These are the coins that have a searchable history and provenance which is desirable. Typically anything made for the sole purpose of being marketed to a collector, does not have history or provenance, much less monetary value or government backing and will not be desirable in the future. Collect what you like because you never know when it may be all you have left to eat.
