If we look at a hairline at 400X it will have raised sides. If wee look at a scratch at 100+X it will have raised sides. Add a slight amount of circulation and the "sides" are gone. Large deep scratched will have raised sides until they are worn down but there is no way a person with knowledge will mistake one of these marks for die polish!</p><p><br /></p><p>One hint: Very often the end of a scratch will have a raised "burr" at the furthest tip from where it started from "displaced metal" that is visible.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
