Not to mention the picker-upper. I’d have worked there, I’d have done same thing, good decision.

That's so lame. That insensitivity causes someone to just keep it and not say anything the next time it happens.

My kid found $100 on the floor under our table at a restaurant. We had a long discussion about the ethical dilemma this presents. The person who dropped it may have left hours ago and not known where they lost it anyway. If we give it to the staff, they have to wait and see if anyone comes back to claim it. They could tell us later that someone came back for it, keep it themselves, and we wouldn't know. I didn't think about security cameras at the time, but it seems unlikely that dropping money under a table is going to be visible. In the end, we decided to just keep it. It seemed like otherwise we'd be passing an ethical problem on to someone else. I'm not sure what the "right" decision was. As an employee you have a different obligation I think.

I found a wallet in a campground bathroom stall in Germany a long time ago. It had 80 marks in it. Since it had ID, I turned it in to the front desk. Later after it had been claimed, the campground gave me a free beer. Not sure if the beer was purchased by the wallet's owner, but it was a nice gesture.

When I was a kid I was hired to rake leaves around a municipal building. Found a $20. Looked around and found another one. About ten years ago, I found a $20 in the street in a residential area. Sure enough, I walked back and forth along that stretch and found five more! When you find a loose note look some more, it might have some friends!

Good finds, but always be cautious. I personally wouldn't pick up anything bigger than a ten without gloves because of how some evil people soak them in phentonyl.
