Sounds like a fun trip, and good pictures, someday I would like to travel to England too. Some of those coins look pretty neat, but you forgot to post pictures of the next best thing to coins, the food.
If you're interested in the food, then you clearly haven't been... (Just kidding - the food's not that bad, but it's not as good as elsewhere in Europe)
Those are fricken awesome photos, FitzNigel => you rock, that was a great effort and a great presentation!! (thanks) ... funny though, eh? ... Although I admit that 99% of the experience is going on the trip and seeing the coins "live" etc, etc ... now that the internet is alive-n-well, I can see thousands more examples in the same time that you've visited the museum (sadly, it really does take the "ummmpphh" out of museums, eh?) ... sad, but true For example, I took an old girlfriend's kids to the BC history museum, which I "loved" as a kid ... but they didn't find it nearly as cool as I did when I was their age (sad, but it is what it is lately) Ooops sorry, I didn't mean to be a downer (awesome photos => I want to go visit) ..... I don't even own a cell-phone (I'm the last of the dinosaurs)
Great presentation of a nice tour @FitzNigel ! I've been visiting most of those places too, but that was kind of 20 years ago. Reminds me of good times with good friends who have both passed away since....we have to live our lifes as well as we can while we can..... Thanks for sharing Q
Those devices are at about everywhere "touristy" I've been too. When I get home I'll post my picture from Stonehenge. Glad you had a nice trip.
Looks like you took that photo across the river right about where the Belfast is berthed. The skyline has changed since I was there. Not so many high rises then (nor the weird cel phone shaped building!). I have many fond memories of coin and antiquity hunting in London. Back in the day it was the best place to go. Also, it looks like you just missed the London Coin Fair, which was in June. Maybe next time you can schedule your trip around that (four times a year).
Yea, I missed the battle of Hastings conference in Oxford too... Timing worked the way it did because of my wife's limited vacation hours so we took advantage of the 4th of July holiday. May need to look into the London coin fair for future trips though...
