Finding upgrades to this set has become a challenge. There are still several dates I would like to upgrade, but some I think are set for good. All are PCGS straight graded. I had a decent purple toned 1913, but just bought this one today. The new 1913 upgraded the toning AND the grade (though toning is most important to me in this set). Previous coin (AU53): Upgrade (AU58): Here is the updated set:
That is a very attractive coin. Your set looks tremendous as a matched set. I remember when you started this set and I was skeptical about the end result. I'm happy to say my fears were unfounded and the set is spectacular.
I need to make a habit of using the like button more. I posted that I liked it...but I didn't actually "Like" it. I'm not as bad as @GDJMSP though...I think he has used that button once...although that might have been photoshoped.
This is an amazing set. I should be so lucky as to get my commems to match half as close. Just beautiful! Which one is next for the toning upgrade? My guess is the '11, but could be the '14 or '15
The 1911 probably will not be upgraded, as that is one of the best toners I have. The 1911-D however, barely has any color, so that is a possibility. Plus, it is a weak D, which does not count in the set registry. Both the 14 and 14-D need upgrading.. I just haven't found nice ones yet.
That set belongs in a black Capitol Plastic holder, IMO. Top notch set for sure! Should be on the best cover of Coin World!
I’ve watched you piece this together over the years. Huge props on the accomplishment. Each coin is magnificent and as a well matched group they are perfect. My favorite is the 1928. That eagle is hammered and jumps off the coin.
