Yep, the one and only! (Sometimes also credited as either 'Sylvestius' or 'Ætheling' too, i get around a bit).
Well blow me down, I had no Idea there was someone else inbetween Victoria and George V. They might be rare then....I have a box full of pennys and not one is an Edward VII penny
I think eddyk is still learning. Here's a run through of the most recent monarchs George I 1714-1727 George II 1727-1760 George III 1760-1820 George IV 1820-1830 William IV 1830-1837 Victoria 1837-1901 Edward VII 1901-1910 George V 1910-1936 Edward VIII 1936 George VI 1936-1952 Elizabeth II 1952-present.
Actually they're not rare at all. The only Edward VII coins that are rare are a few minor uncommon varities and the top grade high denomination silver, namely the halfcrowns in UNC. The 1905 florin is expensive and the 1905 halfcrown is very rare. Other than that he's nothing out of the ordinary, low grade bronze stuff from his reign can be bought from junk boxes for about 20p if not 10p. The low grade silver trades at bullion price.
As you said...still learning. I know very little about old coins. Recent ones yeah, Im not into ancient coins....yet, I will be no doubt about it in the future. My collection began after I started saving strange coins than I found in my change and believe it or not BLUE TACing them to my TV, I took them down about 6 months ago after I found the tac lave a mark on the coins.
You might want to visit this site to familiarise yourself with the basics; http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/coins.html Under the pictures of UK coins you'll find pictures arranged by denomination for most of the types in existance. Some areas still lack the odd monarch here and there, but in certain areas such as sixpences and hammered silver pennies i've been helping Tony fill in many of the gaps. The sixpences particularly so, only James II (1685-88) is missing from the first page of sixers.
Oh and if you see Chris on the British Coin Forum he sells coin catalogues, you can get one for about £5, entitled Collector's Coins UK 2005. That'd set you in good stead and get you familiar with the pricing, how to grade and generally what's available and out there.
