I have been coin hunting to different extents since I was 6 years old. I used to buy rolls from the bank, just to look through them in search of valuable coins. However, I just searched through my first box of half dollars that I got from the bank. I pulled 3 40%ers, including one in my very last roll! I also pulled one NIFC and a couple of uncirculated or near-uncirculated strikes that I kept. One coin in particular that I pulled was a 1972-D with an extremely weak "FG" on the reverse, so I held it just in case. Anyone else want to post their results for a first time box search? Let me hear!

    Welcome @1913LibertyHeadNickel
You are at the right place to learn about CRH and congrats on success with your first box! My first box was a winner as well and I posted it on CT about a year ago:

You start keeping all those and you will get about 5 boxes that you won't want to take back. Believe me I tried;) then went huh no and took them all back to your bank!

My first experience searching half dollars started with a whimsical notion to start an album. I asked for a few rolls to see what I'd find for dates and was told they just got 16 rolls from somebody, so I took 5 rolls home. When I went though them later in the day I found about 6 or 7 40% silver cons in each roll and a couple of 1964's so I rushed back to the bank to get the rest of them. As I hoped the rest were similar, I filled the first 8 holes in my Kennedy album on the first day and I was hooked. Those kinds of finds don't happen often but they're out there.
Welcome to CT and Happy Hunting!!!

Yup I went to my bank and got CWH around Xmas one year 6 or7 years ago one little ol gal rolled 5 rolls that I got 13 90% 21 40% I went back to see if there were any more with her name on them they said no. That was my best score I think in 15 years.
But as the op said I have got thousands of what looks like 1972 UNC and tons of others I used to fill an album for grandkids, If I found a really nice coin I would look to see how good the 2 I had saved were and replace if better. But There are so many what looks like new coins in my area I stopped. and just keep proofs and P and D mint every year.

That's awesome, what a turnout!! What company wrapped the rolls in the box? I usually see vastly different results in videos on YouTube from different companies. My box was rolled by N. F. String & Son.

Most of mine used to be string & Son now I think they are one of the armored companies To many Skunks for me now and hard to take them and dump so I get about a $1000, a year now just to take my local banks stock off them. They hate halves!!

They were Loomis, by far my most successful roller/courier company. Brinks is a distant second, and NF String is by far the worst (very few silvers).

Kennedy Half Dollars are a great series to build a high grade set of. Unlike most other modern coins they didn't see a lot of heavy circulation. I've got a full tube for each date/mm cherry-picked from searching over a million halves, lowest grade on top to compare to new finds/potential upgrades

Agreed! Following in your footsteps VM at a little over 100,000 halves searched in a years time. Halves are my favorite denomination to CRH.

I remember searching halves when they still came in bank money bags and 40% coins were almost not worth keeping. Wow am I getting old!
