    They are 100% total BS.

Some of the people who have paid up for some special coins like the 2009 UHR with a PL designation and 1st Strike have paid premiums of 300-1,000% -- insanity !! :wideyed: :yack:

It's actually gotten to the point of label clutter. I'd rather have more information on the coin itself rather than 1st Strike or other exaggerated nonsense.

Glad to see I did not offend anyone as that was not my intent. Obviously I'm not alone in not getting the logic. But hey, if that's what you like so be it. For me, that extra money above could go towards another coin I need or like. Thanks all!

Regardless of whatever they should or not first strikes, early release, first release, first day of issue etc can have premiums. Everyone can ignore them if they want, but markets set them price. PL on generally not PL coins will have a premium, designations have generally had some premium over the years (many years actually) and it is what it is. Don’t have to like it, but studying it is a much better route than just ignoring it

Trust me, I studied the premiums on those coins for YEARS and they still persist to this day, just with idiotic premiums, not "Bellevue Is Calling" premiums (THE HONEYMOONERS, look it up :D ).

I agree with you that the premium reflects market forces. I just think sometimes the market gets it wrong in degree if not in kind.

I think those 2019-S Silver Eagles will sell at a rich premium years from now, not just 1,500% premiums. :D

First Strike? Early Release? Unless you are standing at the Mint and that FIRST coin falls into your hands and you run like a bandit. There is only ONE first strike! Early Release? When coins are packaged at the mint, they are stockpiled until the official release date, so as quoted earlier in these threads "first in last out" how do you know your coins is early release??? You Don't! TPG makes money off these labels, look at what they charge vs. standard label. WAKE up, your 2020 Silver Eagle minted first day or last is STILL a 2020 Silver Eagle (unless mint error etc.)

I have always thought that first strikes, and early release (also first day of issue) are a money maker for TPGs, by creating alleged varieties, that are not varieties. It gets some collectors to buy multiple versions of the exact same coin, in the exact same grade.

On moderns I love PCGS FIRST STRIKE LABELS with OUR AMERICAN FLAG on it.
I don't give a crap if it's the 12,694th coin made, just put that beautiful flag on it.
