    ???

I just checked the "completed" sales on ebay -i didn't see any RAW sets sell for less than $620s. There are however some GRADED 69 sets selling in the high $500s -but the lowest there was at $595 -I suppose collectors have finally realized that 99% of ALL minted coins that go from Mint press to display box are PR69 or MS69 with some 70s.

The UNGRADED, RAW sets are commanding premium prices and will likely continue as the market supply diminishes.

The $450 you reference are starting bids -NOT SALES.

Notice that the dealers waited until the first wave of sets came and went -now they are posting $895 proof or unc -better lock in now -RAW sets will likely continue to climb as they have this past week.

I am a really patient guy, but my patience is really wearing. I have not frequented the mint that much, butI have never had a problem like this. My expected ship dates keeps getting pushed back (and I read the posts so I know everyones theories) and it seems very unprofessional and easy to avoid. It almost seems like they set the mintage at 40,000 and them act like it going to take an act of God to make that incredible feat happen. I have talked with several "cutomer specialists" on the phone and it seems they are singing a different song each time I call. I also understand that they don't want to make all the coins at once because they may not all sell, but did they even think about what if they did? I mean I have ship dates right now that range from 22 AUG to 04 SEPT, I mean it will be like 3 months before I get the coins at the earliest. Not how I would run a mint.

It wasn't very long ago that you ordered your coins from the mint in summer and got them the spring of the following year. I'd count my belssings ;)

This seems like a good time to ask a question I've had for a while. I noticed that virtually all the First Spouse coins listed on eBay for the last few weeks are graded and the graded ones (at least the PF70's and MS70's) are going for a great deal more than the raw coins.

It also seems to me that sets of 4 (1 each of MW proof, MW unc, AA proof and AA unc) seem to go for more than the sum of the individual coins.

If you had a few of these to sell, would you have them graded or keep them in their original packaging?

    first spouse bullion coins

Yes that's right these are specified as bullion coins. I've read all the posting over the last couple of months by mostly dissappointed collectors that were badly treated by a poorly managed U.S. Mint. Yes I am one of those unhappy collectors! Ther are so many ways the mint could have helped us, but instead catered to dealers and speculators instead. Well you all have hashed that out very well. Now you need to log on to the mint site,go to their pressroom and follow the legislative link. There you will find the presidential $1 coin act of 2005 (public law 109-145). Under section 103 you will note, among other things, that the number of coins was to be set at any number the secretary deemed "appropriate"; and all other methods of distribution are also left to the mint's discretion! (5 per household &etc. to ad naseum!) Sooo, nobody's fault but good old mint! I agree with those of you who say your'e not buying at the inflated prices, same here! Matter of fact having been burnt by the mint also on the Franklins,(won' buy till their down to issue!) I have been strongly thinking on total BOYCOTT of all mint products...The are just not collector friendly! And one more link to go to and vent your frustrations,..www@ccac.gov. This is the citizens coinage advisory committee.

lprice ower and lower each day

now @ .99 cent for four gold coins. actually it hit a new low at $550.00. and with some other coins below $600.00. sellers keep moving in. that prove gold is no match for silver coin. i think other spouses will not be doing good as well.

Saw a post in the collectors universe forum that the release date of the Jefferson liberty coin has been bumped till August 30th. According to the post this was reported in a recent coin world magazine.

will give those who are selling the first two spouses a couple of more weeks before the Jefferson liberties are available

Well not exactly. The secretary mentioned is the Secretary of the Treasury. So he decided on the mintage, not somebody at the mint. So if you want to blame somebody, blame him not the mint.

As for the quantity, yes the mint did set that. But if you will recall, the 1st of the First Spouse coins sold out when all there was available were subscriptions for the coins. The mint then discovered that dealers and collectors alike were using friends, relatives and others ot bypass the ordering limits for the subscriptions set at 10 and were ordering way more than they were allowed to order.

So the mint canceled all subscriptions and did not make the coins available until they went on sale individually. The also reduced the order limit to 5. But because of the subscription sellout, something that had never happened before, there was an ordering frenzy by speculators - collectors who wanted to make a fast buck and the coins sold out in 2 hrs. Again something that had never happened before.

So if you to blame someone for that fine. But at least place the blame where it belongs - on the people wanting to make a fast buck.

    We could talk Nuremberg....

and then say, well the mint works for the secretary of the treasury (did he actually make that decision or allocate it to the director of the mint?) and blah, blah,blah.....But the point is the mint/and or Secretary could be a lot more collector friendly! There are many ways to slow down the fast buck artists if only they would use them.( oh yeah, I agree they are the major problem for us collectors) This is not a recent problem' it has been going on for a long time. I remember well the noise that the dealers(and speculators )have made over the years about Making the modern commems worth something by limiting production and releasing numbers ahead of time, and they don't like being limited on purchases! They want it handed to them on the silver/gold platter!!! They are quick to forget about the gold laying goose. They keep driving the collector away, who is gonna buy those modern "rarities"? Glad to see the market adjusting the prices; boycott till the issue price is back!

    spouses gold prices crushed

now several coins offered at $450.00 and nobody willing to take it. the lowest price is $536.00. i think the 3rd spouse gold will also be that way. start high and go straight down. simply because it is gold. it can not match against the silver. like silver can go up 10 x or 5 x . the best gold is only 2 x. and mostly traded 25% to 50% premium at most. go for silver.........

uhh, you forgot to mention the "RESERVE NOT MET" part of all the $450 listings. Most sales of raw ungraded proofs are still in the $600s.

But I like silver too :)

Got another "Backorder" email from the mint today. Not sure why though, because the ship date is still 9/4.

You're right. I'm sure within a week or so, the price will be down to melt value and after labor day, I suspect that owners will be PAYING people to take these horrible coins off their hands and paying all postage also. Hell they'll probably deliver them in person to the buyers' homes.

Quick question on order limits, I want to order 5 of the Jefferson Proofs, my mom want to order a couple as well but she does not want to do it herself becuase she will be working during that time. My question is this, if I create an account for her on the mint page and use her credit card and they are shipped to her house will that create any problems with the 5 that I am going to order? I just dont want to do her any favors if it is going to mess mine up, lol. Just don't know if they check IP address or something else.

The credit cards have to be different, too. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem if they truly represent two different people.

    you can get one

with stock market going south. the lot of people will not buy coins. instead they gonna sell. like gold and silver. all other metals. oil and so on. all going down all over the world. and you have 40 plus spouses x 40,000 each. i estimate over 2,000,000 gold coin of this type gonna flow on us. it is a lot. relax. just wait for bullion value baby. besides, the mint is selling way over bullion value. you know that.

p.s. bullion price for spouse gold is $330.00. while the mint is selling $429.95 plus shipping of $4.95.
