Has there been enough time for this series to become known? -I see these going the way of the 1999 silver proof sets -if you plan to collect the first spouse series -you will need these inagural issues -looks like right now -most on the secondary market are slabbed which I think takes away from the originality of the offer. (what do you do with the high quality display case?)

The polished laquered display cases really "top-shelf" this release and I have not seen too many originals offered.:goof:

I received one MW Pr and one Unc. each of the MW and AA. One AA Pr pending.
I'm planning on keeping them in mint packaging for > 5 years. It's probably not a good
idea to speculate on the value of a coin after only 1-2 mos if release . . .

I agree with this latter statement. Prices will osilate with preceptions-of-the-moment, but at such low mintages coupled with the growing interest in the presidential series -the FS series seem to almost be an intrinsic requirement.

This sentiment is also expressed in other forums such as the "collectors universe" http://forums.collectors.com/

If I had to choose a catagory to sit in between "bearish and bullish" on the FS series _ I'm bullish.

I have to say, I don't understand this at all. Most of the coins are going to grade MS69 or MS70 or PF69 or PF70, so what's the value of having the coin in a slab, which in this case is ugly compared to the original packaging? I plan on keeping mine in the original packaging.

As usual, I'm dismayed by the persistent designation of these coins, which were all sold within 2 hours of each other as "First Strikes" by PCGS (who should know better). Why isn't the collector community just refusing to pay a premium for them?

look at the price list above, they are mostly above $700. I know you WISH they were $600 but that won't happen except for the occosional one that is sold by someone with 97% or lower feedback.

People who are desperate to sell these so they can get the money back to pay their credit card bill from the US Mint might settle for a lower price, but those sellers who can will wait until the glut of new listings settles down. The price of the 20th anniversary silver eagle sets which were made in much greater numbers, didn't reach a plateau until 7 or 8 months after they were issued.

I'm seeing completed raw listings for these go for between $650 and over $700 still. I don't see any under $600 so these are holding up in value so far.

elaine thats a volume discount not true for individual listings. just curious do you have an interest in the spouse coins coming down in price?

Sorry, I thought you meant only individual coins and not bulk puchases. That one did close at under $600 each but I don't think it means the individual ones will fall that far. I am still seeing those go for $640 or more at this point.

I'm getting the impression this is an attempt to sway the market in one' s favor since a lot of would be buyers (like myself) like to get a pulse for what is happening in the coin scene by checking these forums -I see this alot on various stock forums but generally in opposite direction -where the stock is hyped...:eek:dd:

Again, with such low inagural mintages on a long running series, that is longer than one issue, I see bargin pricing right now at the $700 range -they were going for $850 just a few weeks ago and there are people all over the world who collect US Mint products -

did the Mint even advertise these?

    Stand by.

I see why you misunderstood. I was looking at completed items. Unslabbed COMPLETED unc = 699 + shipping proof= 685

these were the 2 most recent nonslabbed completed spouse coins at time I wrote these (not cherrypicked)

you need to look at the left side of screen and find "completed items" and check that box.

you are funny. i think we need to get elaine to quote a price of 400 then we can ask to buy at that price :D

not really meaning to be funny, I think E was looking at non-completed items for those low prices. The thing is that they get the big bids in the last 2 minutes (sniping), so if you look at items even 5 minutes before closing it is easy to think that they are going for far less.

Actually if you look at the newly listed FS sets -they are going back up -some in the $800s.

It's interesting that so far, the big dealers have not listed First Spouse coins in any advertisements. This suggests to me that they expect the prices to go up and are waiting for things to stabilize before they commit to selling them at a specific price.
