Hey, this is my first post on the forum. I've been collecting for about 3 years now and have occasionally browsed this site for answers. Well, now it's time to ask a question because I've come across a coin that I can't find an answer to. I have what appears to be an 1841 1/4 Real coin. The problem? Krause claims that they were made up until 1840 and than started to be made again in 1842. This coin appears to be the silver version, meaning the type that began to be made in 1842, only it appears very crude. This unusual aspect leads me to believe that it is fake, however I would have thought that if it was fake, then someone would have posed that question already. Secondly, due to the size of the coin and hte fact that it is only made out of silver, it makes me wonder why anyone would even bother counterfitting the coin. I toy with the idea that it is a pattern coin or just a rare coin that few people know about, but of course the odds of that are slim i bet. What do you think?
