I have been embroiled in buying a new house and moving the last couple months which has eaten all my time, energy and spare funds. Things are finally starting to settle a little so I thought I would buy a new coin just on principle. I picked this coin with its three sea creatures because it reminds me of the kind of coin that Stevex6 likes. It turns out to be somewhat rare, CNG only lists 2 in their sales records. I got it for a super deal at ebay shop MORTOWN, a place I check regularly for good stuff. My camera setup is in a box somewhere so I had to resort to a cell phone picture: THRACE, Anchialus. Maximinus I. AD 235-238. Æ (25mm, 7.57 g, 7h). Obverse: Laureate head right, slight drapery, AVT MAXIMEINOC EV CEB CAN. Reverse: Dolphin right, fish above and below; the top to left, the bottom to right. AΓXIAΛEΩN. References: Cf. AMNG II 604; Mouchmov -; cf. Varbanov 499/494 (for obv./rev.). Rare. I am back in the game! Post your coins with sea creatures! John
very kool!.. ole Stevex6 has left an indelible influence on us all.. i have a coin coming that is a product of him also glad you getting settled in and getting comfortable Theo. (that's a fine pic by the way!)...i can't recall having any sea critters on coin right off the bat, but i like yours!..
That's lovely! Nice, legible inscriptions, too. I don't have many with sea creatures. Here's a mythical creature, a capricorn: Cornelia Supera, wife of Aemelian, Augusta, 253 CE. Roman provincial Æ 20.5mm, 3.78 g. Mysia, Parium, AD 253. Obv: G CORN SUPERA, diademed and draped bust right. Rev: C. G. I. H. P., Capricorn right, cornucopia on back; globe between legs (Sear describes as a star, but this appears to be a globe). Refs: SGI 4408 (var.); SNG Von Aulock 7448.
Congrats! Glad to hear life is getting back to normal. LOVE sea creatures! Here's one of the few I've ever picked up at a coin show... Sicily, Akragas. Tetras 10.35 g), ca. 420-406 BC. AKPA, eagle right, head lowered to devour hare held in talons; in left field, crab right. Reverse Crab; below, three pellets above crayfish left. CNS 50; SNG ANS 1037; HGC 2, 140. Rare. Glossy dark chocolate brown patina.
Glad to hear its all starting to settle for you and a nice coin @Theodosius I am still trying to get moved and get my old house to sell also. The new job and home is going but not fast enough. I have a coin on the way from a fellow CTer. Not been able to add any new coins for same reasons as you and has been very difficult. Here is an old and tiny coin that I have been unsucessful at photograghing so its JA's photo. Istros, Moesia. AR Trihemiobol, 10mm, 1.1g; c. 380/350-330/280 BC. Obv. Facing male heads, the right inverted. Rev. IΣTΡIH, sea-eagle grasping a dolphin with talons. Reference: SNG BM 250 Ex-JAZ

Mine uses different dies and I called the 'up' on the reverse differently because of the trident around which the dolphin entwines. Mine was from the Guy Clark stock when a friend was selling them for him at a VNA show. I bought 16 of his coins that day. I liked the scale detail on the left fish. I have bought coins for worse reasons than fish scales. I wonder sometimes if a good cleaner could help it but I am not a good cleaner. https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...s=1&thesaurus=1&order=0¤cy=usd&company= There are several of these on acsearch (above) showing different dies and every opinion on which way is up. None are high grade.
Sea creatures is plural so here you go (two dolphins & two dots): THRACE, Thasos AR Obol 435 - 411 B.C. 0.50 grams, 8 mm Obv: Two dolphins swimming opposite directions with pellet above & below Rev: Quaripartite incuse punch Grade: gF to a VF Other: Rosen Collection 146, Lockett 1224, Ex (Lewis Egnew Collection) Superior 30 May 1995 lot 7224, Ex Harlan Berk, from Allen Berman Dec 2014.
I wondered why some people were showing the reverse orientation that way, the trident pointing up makes sense.

Everyone, just about, here gets "Best Answer". Except myself, who the powers that be may be saving for "Worst Answer". The Lobster getting ready for the pot !!!

12 people, or a dozen, on this page have been awarded "Best Answer". In my logic, that is 11 too many. How can all 12 be considered as best ? Or is this a Lunatic Asylum ???
That's a link to vote for Best Answer. You can't vote for yourself so it won't show for you but it's visible for everyone else. Sorry but there's no conspiracy here.
