We are saying the same thing, methinks. Our difference, if there is one, is that I don't think one should pay retail at auction. Then why not give the $100 to a dealer, who likely has a much better eye than you do and the opportunity to use it by viewing the coin in-hand, and a return (and in some cases a buyback) policy?
Can't argue with either of those two statements. Guess I will have to look somewhere else to have my fun. Hmmm. How about the defend the IKE thread.
No way man. My GF is a poker dealer. All of the dealers and employees at the Borgata poker room love me. Partly because I am a nice guy and partly because they know I work in the casino business. My nickname is the mayor, because I always show up after work in a really nice suit and I spend about 20 minutes saying hello to everyone before I start playing. One of the regulars told me "man, if there were babies here, you would be kissing them." PS. If I ever lose my job, I am becoming a poker dealer. They make more money.
lots of people can judge a coin by pics. Doug is a popular example. now having access to those people might be hard
lol I missed 2 pages of posts , I knew I shouldn't have gone to sleep. Just curious now, how would you guys grade this 1884-CC, compared to the one I posted.
Yeah you got it Lehigh, you guys are tough graders today too . IMO I think the one I got is slightly nicer than this one (it was in the lot right before the coin I bid on). Btw Lehigh it sold for almost $750 ($747.50).
I got it without even looking at the coin. You would have no other reason to post that photo unless it was an MS66 that sold for more than Mike was saying it was worth. BTW, the skill I just used is the same skill used to determine your opponents hole cards in Texas Holdem.
lol I dont think I ever want to play texas holdem with Lehigh. But I was just actually more interested in how people would grade another 66, IMO the coin I just posted was the second nicest 66 in the auction.
ehh. To me an MS66 should be a clean coin with small nicks around it, but no problems in the fields. In fact, anything above 65 should be that kind of coin. Ruben
For the record, I agree with the grade on both coins and wouldn't buy either one. Now if I was going to purchase an 1884-CC MS66, it would look like this: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=382&Lot_No=6802#photo Now granted, it is an MS67, but you get the idea.
Ruben, Look at the coin in the slab using the link to the auction lot. The imperfections you are seeing are exaggerated by the size of the photo. This coin is every bit a 66 IMO. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1126&Lot_No=9542#photo
