I'm not big on gimmicky coins but this is pretty awesome and weighs 7 ounces of silver. Being offered by MCM. 1 spherical coin.jpg

Well, the mint is not operated by the government but a stock corporation controlled by Zbigniew Jakubas. These days Polish coins are minted by his company but also by other mints. On the other hand, the Mint of Poland/Mennica Polska makes coins and "coins" for several other countries/territories - Niue in this case. The mint presented that sphere technology at the World Money Fair in February. Here is a promo video that has some info.

There are round coins, square coins, scalloped coins, holed coins, etc. etc. that are used as money somewhere in the world. A ball, however, is not a coin. I just don't see how we can get around that fact. Can I contract with the island of Niue to issue a legal tender Beanie Baby and call it a coin? This is getting ridiculous...

A bit above the market price of silver, I would say. Looks like a worn-out billiard ball

Wow, silver is over $100 an ounce now? I forgot to buy some! Noooo! I must be missing out so much!

But seriously, how are they supposed to get a proof finish?
