Is it possible that my bank has some sort of detector in their machines that sorts out anything different?

Yea, it's called every other roll hunter and fast food clerk out there lol
I don't think the sorting machines check for silver or we would not still be finding it. Very often you can do a whole box of 10c, 25c or 50c and not find silver.
Also to be clear about s mint mark. S is for San Francisco Mint, it is not always proof, although some years that may be true. That is why a Red Book is really good. You don't read the whole book, You just look up what you are searching and very quickly you can see what years are silver, find other one that may be interesting to you. You use it more like an encyclopedia, as an information guide.

Oh, i didn't think there would be any other searchers in my tiny town.

And i just finished a box of dimes didn't find any silver.

I wonder if libraries carry that book.

And i couldn't find any S mark ones.

I'll get another box today but would i have a better chance with 1 more box of dimes or two boxes of nickels?

You would have better luck with 2 boxes of nickels, but it would take a lot longer.

I doubt the library would carry a Red book, but I'm not sure.

Just to be clear-- boxes of coins are not local. The dumped coins are sent off to a facility that rolls the coins and ships them to banks nationwide. You could be getting coins from the other side of the country.

I assumed you were searching halves. Anyway, just keep going, you'll get some.

yeah, thats what i was thinking. It was dimes though and i didn't find any. But i did find one 1968 dime from canada and i read those were 50 percent silver but i dont know if it is since it's magnetic. But if it's only 50 percent silver then wouldn't the other 50 percent be some other possibly magnetic metal? Or is it one of the later, not silver ones from that year?

Just remember that coin roll hunting is addictive! I got started finding some good things and then eventually got to blogging about it....or starting to count every coin you go through just for funsies!

Just be careful not to become too sucked in. You just may never get out!

Sadly, your magnetic dime is not silver, but this 1968 I found is silver. Is yours tarnished like that? Using a magnet is a great way to filter the bad ones out.

Hahaha ha Dude bro you know copper isn't magnetic, nickel is but it loses its magnetism when combined with copper.

What would it have been though? It was canadian.

Non silver Canadians are magnetic. It's the easiest way to check 68's.

No prob. When I'm searching clear wrapped rolls and I see a silver edge that looks questionable, I take a magnet to the roll and see if it sticks. This saves me the time and disappointment of opening the roll. Obviously, this only works on clear wrapped rolls.

Are the clear wrapped ones the customer rolled ones?
Because all of the ones i've been getting are the orange paper ones.

No the clear plastic wrapped ones are BWR. Around here they're from brinks.

Are they rolled on the ends or just crimped/smashed down?
