Hey Guys, I was racking my brain this morning and i thought getting your first coin professionally graded is a big moment for a collector. I'm still waiting on my first, hoping to find an error CRH or something along those lines. So for now I'll be content on hearing your stories ! Thanks, Jason
I sent in an AU-53 (my grade) 1942/1 Mercury dime that I bought at a pawn shop for sixty cents or so back in the day, and got back a PCGS MS-63. I completely disagreed with the grade, but it turned into quite a profit. I generally don't send anything in unless I plan to sell it. Most of my collections are raw and the expense just isn't worth it to me. I'd rather spend that money on another coin. Think about it, not too long ago, you could get a nice raw common date proof like Morgan dollar for about the same cost as sending in a coin; which would you prefer?
I bought an 89-CC Morgan raw (great idea for a new collector LOL) and sent it in thinking if it straight graded I'd check off one of the harder coins to get early on. It came back genuine but details for damage (which I knew was a good chance from a gouge on obverse). Lost a few bucks but learned from it.
I don't think it's the cherrypickers one . Here's an image from Pcgs and yours doesn't match the mint mark . Now here's yours It could be DDO-001, but there's no images that I know of .
I'm not seeing Tripling, so that rules out 1 and 2 . Could be #3, which is doubling . But again, no images ..
