This colorful coin comes to me as a gift from a fellow board member. It was mine to have if I wanted to cure the BD. The BD isn't that bad - just a few spots at the top of the obverse, which spill over onto the rim, maybe a bit around the top edges of Pegasos. I think it's quite curable. The rest is mineral deposit. Not sure of the type - style looks Sicilian -- or is it Macedonian? What say you?
Sweet => the bronze disease rocks on that coin!! Hopefully 2015 isn't the year of BD? Hopefully you'll be able to cure what ails this poor ol' coin (I think it's in good hands) Not sure where that baby is from? (Athena & Pegasus are often on those good ol' classic Greek coins from Corinth and/or Akarnania ... but I also have a Roman Hadrian example with that sweet ol' flyin' horse) ... again, good luck saving the patient
It's not Athena - maybe Persephone or Apollo? The bronze disease isn't much, just at the top. I can clean that up no problem. The pic makes it look like it's covered with BD, but it isn't - just bluish mineral deposits.
could it be something similar to that one (Kore and Persephone being the same one) ? Syracuse Hieron II 275-216 BC ΣΙΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ, head of Kore left Pegasus left, Delta in field 4.0 gr, 18 mm Q
Would be nice to know how the BD cure comes. To me it looks Sicilian, I could be wrong though. In any case nice coin.
Well, I think it's in the right neighborhood, Q. I don't see any lettering or control marks on my coin, but they could be worn out.
Looks Sicilian to me, possibly Syracusian. What size is your coin, JA? Here's a similar coin from What I Like About Ancient Coins (a fun site to browse): Apollo/Pegasus. No control marks or legends. Syracuse.
Yeah, that looks good TIF, same style. Syracuse it is. I haven't measured it yet but guesstimate 20mm, 4-5g.
