Somewhere I have a denarius of Vespasian with a sow and her piglets on the reverse (can't find the pictures now or the coin right now). That is a coin which I find evocative of life and the common folk in the Roman Empire. Here are some of my other coins for Vespasianus.
I have 2 coins of Vespasian. Both are denarii. RIC 685 and RIC 544. The first one os from the Engstrom collection and the second is from the Stefanelli collection.
Wonderful posts everyone!! I'll post my example of that cool OP denarius... As a child growing up in Brooklyn, I LOVED visiting my relatives in upstate New York (the Saratoga area)---mountains, lakes and so much history...
I have one of these, too. Rome mint, AD 70 2.73 gm; 17.7 mm Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head, r. Rev: COS ITER TR POT, Pax seated l., holding branch and caduceus. Refs: RIC 10D; Sear 2285; BMCRE 26. Now where have I seen that reverse before?
