Picked up a couple new Finnish coins today, thought I'd share them. Most interested to hear opinions on the second coin. But first, the first coin. 1917 5 Pennia KM 17 (measures 25mm) Mintage ? Civil War Coinage (Kerenski Government Issue) 1910 5 Pennia KM 15 Mintage of only 60,000 Very interested to hear opinions on grade and authenticity. If it's good to go, this will be the second key date I've uncovered in the last month (to go along with my Australia 1925 1 Penny I picked up about a month ago.) There isn't anything about it that stands out as counterfeit. NGC Price Guide: VF - $100, XF - $300, (No AU price), MS60 - $600
It was in one of those older 2x2's (where the coin inside starts turning) which contributes to the uneven color. Still loads of detail, though...curious to see what approx grade she is.
Very nice coins, great condition, congratulations on your find. The "10" I think should be XF+ ,The "17" could make AU with that trace of luster.
I've been reading up on my Finnish history (trying to figure out why only 60,000 of these 5 Pennia were minted in 1910) and I had two main thoughts: 1) I'd LOVE for someone to share a website (if it exists) that has an interactive map where you input the date/country and it shows the range of territory at that time. EDIT: found one here. 2) I'd LOVE to put together a website of "key date info" - detailing key dates and why they became so. What caused low mintages, low survival rates, etc. Seems like a 2017 project, I think.
