Coins with fingerprints absolutely should not grade MS. There is no question that they have been circulated, plus the surfaces have been significantly impaired
Gotta disagree with this part. There millions of coins, (both slabbed and raw), that were or are in actual circulation that are without doubt MS. That is because the single defining factor is if the coins have wear or not. No wear, they're MS. And besides that, many a collector has inadvertently put a fingerprint on one or more of his MS coins - coins that were never in circulation. As for this point, there are and never has been any rules or limitations in any set of grading standards that says a coin cannot be MS because it has a fingerprint on it. That said, can an individual have his own standards regarding this issue ? Sure. But don't expect others to agree with it.
Or if you tell them their post should have been made in a different forum, have them report their own post a request that it be moved. Then the moderator can move it and there is just the single post. Ever see any of those videos of how the made coins in the 20's or 40's. You see the mint workers running their hands through the blanks/planchets, picking up stacks od planchets to put into the pres feeder, spreading them out for inspection, or the guy bouncing them checking for flawed ones. Maybe the adjustors filing the edges of overweight blanks etc? None of them are wearing gloves, and they are leaving fingerprints that can show up later. A fingerprint does NOT mean for sure the coins has been in circulation. Look at that Ike in post #64. It is still in the government packaging. How much circulation has it seen?
Works for me But so does the other. I have no qualms at all about a post made by new member in a thread that's on a different subject than the thread. It can stay there eternity as far as I'm concerned. And, other members can answer his/her question as well. No harm done either way.
Oh man, I hope I didn't start any trouble here. Hope this thread doesn't turn into a "toning" cousin!
