With the setup he has it looks to be a bit expensive. But if you have locations that you know are producing it can be worth it I guess. Fuel, equipment, local laws or permits need to be factored in as well. This would be like unwrapping Christmas gifts every day!
All the placer deposits are already sucked quite dry. We will have to go to extremely remote areas, if we really want to get any gold. Searching for hidden gold treasures might yield some luck. Also, prospecting near to abandoned gold mines should do the trick, but should chose the one which is remote.
Very true, gold these days is so rare, everybody wants it, and a lot of people are mining it. If you really want to find anything, you'll need an extra remote location, and even then, it might be already depleted. The equipment and permits are very pricey too, so you'll need to be sure you can find some gold to make up for those.
