Finally delivered to my door this morning, after a trip across the big pond came this 1796 LIHERTY large cent. According to Breen, the LIHERTY feature occurred due to the 'B' first being punched inverted, and then corrected. My coin is the S-103 variety, reverse of 1794 with double leaves at 'OF' and more scarce (R4+) than the S-104, the other 'Liherty' variety. S-104 has triple leaves at 'OF' and is R-3+. I have been looking for an S-103 or 104 for a while, and have seen a few, but they were either way too expensive, or beat up with corroded, porous, pitted or rough planchets. This one shows a nice enough, well balanced planchet with nice color and relatively few defects; and the price was "OK". Also, it is an S-103. The grade is not that great, and there is a minor clip on the obverse (not visible from the reverse), but the LIHERTY feature is clearly visible. I am happy. It's tough being an early date large cent collector, with close to 300 varieties to collect!' I would welcome your opinions and comments. Thanks and regards, Eduard
