I apologize for not having a photograph. When at FUN, I ran across a Feuchtwanger Three Cent token. I had previously thought there were only one cent tokens so when I saw this three cent piece in a dealer's case, I had to take a second look. It was in incredible condition, graded MS-62 and much better struck than almost all of the one cent tokens I've previously seen. I understand it is very rare and the price of $5,000 certainly reflects that.
I’ve seen them for sale before in various online shops. E.g. this one: https://coins.ha.com/itm/hard-times...9-4942.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 I guess it would be more popular if the eagle wouldn’t look like it came straight from the set of Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary”.
The 3 centers are very scarce and expensive. There was a member of the PCGS forum, Ambro, who collected the 1 and 3 cent by variety. You might try looking for some of his old threads. I have a mediocre 1c raw, don't see a 3c in my immediate future.
Looks like the sick, starving eagle is on a deer carcass after the snow banks along the highway has melted.
There are two main types of Feuchwanger three cent tokens. The one that everyone seems to know about has a large eagle on the obverse and is quite rare and expensive. Those were issued during the Civil War, more as "samples" than anything that was intended for circulation. I saw them for sale, but the prices years ago were around $3,000 to $4,000 +. The first one was issued during the Hard Times period. It features a rendition of the New York State Seal. That one used to cost $1,200 or so. I have not been in the market since I bought the piece in my collection.
